Methodology

ABC center incorporates unique teaching techniques which combine a number of innovative communicative-training methods, as well as neurolinguistic approaches. Our methodology is targeted toward acquisition of language skills through modeling of communicative situations in order to achieve results in a maximum short period of time.

Our clients achieve their language goals in the following ways:

• We try to conduct our classes primarily in English to ensure the immersion into the language environment;


• Our students are afforded an opportunity to speak 80% of the class.


• Working with new vocabulary and grammar goes through three main logical stage: presentation, drilling and production with the emphasis on communication and maximum drilling of the new material in class;


• We adhere to a functional grammar approach which allows our students to quickly integrate new grammatical structures into their speech.


• Besides the  so called “hard language skills” ( speaking, reading, writing, audio comprehension) our students are given an opportunity to acquire “soft skills” necessary for their day-to-day English communication, such as : introductions and greetings; small talk; welcoming a visitor; answering the phone; leaving recorded messages; making and changing appointments; giving opinions; agreeing/ disagreeing; participating in a meeting or discussion; advice and suggestions; negotiations; request and offers; exchanging information; giving talks, presentations; writing e-mails; writing letters; writing memos; writing reports; describing a process; interviewing techniques; social responses; showing enthusiasm


• We employ the latest textbooks and the most up-to-date methods of teaching in class


• We regularly take feedback from our clients to meet their requirements better.

 

Our students can acquire language skills on the following levels:

Beginner: At this level a student experiences his first encounter with the language. After only a month's study at Beginner level, a student will be able to say his name and nationality, ask basic questions and give simple answers. A student will know the alphabet and numbers to 100. They will be able to shop or travel with basic English. A student will know the fundamentals of English pronunciation.

Elementary:  Students will be able to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases related to areas of most immediate relevance. They will have the tools to greet each other, introduce themselves and others, ask and give personal information and directions. They will be able to interact in a simple way when the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

Pre-Intermediate: A student of the Pre-intermediate level has a good basic ability to communicate and understand, but can make great improvement in all areas. A student can talk about many subjects and give their opinion on them. They can talk with confidence in the present, past and future simple tenses. A student can perform tasks such as shopping, booking a hotel room, travel, and making conversation in English. Student’s grammar includes an understanding of adjectives, adverbs, comparatives, articles, possessives, and basic prepositions.

Intermediate: A student at Intermediate level can understand and speak English with some confidence. A student has the grammar and the vocabulary to talk and read about a wide number of subjects. He or she has some understanding of tone and style. A student can assess and consciously improve their own pronunciation. A student has studied all the main tenses and can confidently make sentences, question forms and clauses in all of them.  They know and can use most of the basic grammatical structures, have sufficient vocabulary to communicate successfully in a variety of situations, even if they make mistakes.

Upper- Intermediate: A student at Upper-Intermediate level has an effective, but not perfect, use of English. A student can talk almost fluently and almost completely accurately. Everyday situations in an English-language environment do not worry him/her. A student can take part in extended conversations or discussions and their vocabulary covers almost every circumstance. If a student does not know a word they can almost always find a way of describing it. He or she has knowledge of some idiomatic English, phrasal verbs, and colloquial expressions. A student has studied all the main areas of English grammar. They can communicate confidently in a variety of situations. Some occasional mistakes occur in grammar and vocabulary but this does not prevent the listener from understanding.

Advanced: Advanced is the highest level most students attain without the total immersion of living in another country. The student’s spoken English is both fluent and accurate. Their vocabulary is wide and they have a good knowledge of collocations, phrasal verbs, colloquial expressions and idioms. All common areas of grammar are familiar to an advanced student. A student has strategies for understanding new and unusual accents, jargons and colloquialisms.

Proficiency: Proficiency is the highest level we recognize. A student of this level is fluent and rarely encounters English which he/she does not understand. However, it is always possible to improve by increasing his or her understanding of the nuances of the English language and by developing vocabulary further.
